The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach, in conjunction with the Ponte Vedra Beach Recorder, announced today the formation of the Grace Hayes Memorial Arts for Kids Scholarship Fund. The Arts for Kids Fund will provide scholarships for area underserved children age 4-14 to attend a variety of art classes and camps at the Cultural Center. The Grace Hayes Memorial Arts for Kids Scholarship Fund was created as a way to pay tribute to Grace Hayes for her lifetime dedication to the service of others. Grace Hayes played many important roles in our community as the Editor of the Ponte Vedra Recorder, as well as serving on a multitude of community service boards and committees. Grace was always a big supporter of the children’s programs at the Cultural Center, especially the summer arts camps in which her grandson “Sully” was enrolled. Money donated to the Grace Hayes Memorial Arts for Kids Scholarship Fund will go directly to pay tuition for area underserved kids who might otherwise not be able to enjoy the art programs offered by the Cultural Center. Children receiving the Arts for Kids Scholarships will be asked to create in words or art what their experience meant to them. The Ponte Vedra Recorder will publish these word and picture essays as a nod to Grace Hayes, the journalist. All contributions are 100% tax deductible. The first scholarships will be awarded in June 2009.
