Children's Classes - Fall 2012

Our arts classes, workshops, home school programs, and camps, attempt to stimulate awareness, independence, observation, communication, courage and self-esteem. Enabling children to develop to their full potential should be the primary goal of education, and art making is fundamental to that process.

Pre-registration is required for all programs.
**All supplies are included unless otherwise noted.**

Note: To withdraw from a class or camp and receive a refund, the request must be made at least 14 days prior to the first day of your class. Please call the program manager and receive a verbal confirmation for all refund requests. Refunds can not be issued after the expired 14 days. Please review program policies before registering for a class.  Class and Camp policies.

If you have a child with special needs, please call two weeks prior to registration to ensure we can provide adequate services for your young artist.

Tiny Ballerinas (age 2 only)

Fridays 9:20am – 10am

This class is designed for the beginning dancers to develop a sense of dance coordination, poise and musicality using simple movements and basic ballet terminology. Parents, please stay with the child for this class. 

Nov. 2 to Dec. 21 -  6 classes

Pas de Trois  (age 3)

Fridays 11am – 11:45am

This ballet class is specifically designed for three-year-olds ballerinas or under 3 with previous dance experience. Parents, please stay with the child for this class.

Home School Musical Theater  (grades 1 – 6)

Tuesdays 1pm – 2:30pm

Emily Aldridge

Great class for an introduction to all things theater. Learn how singing, dancing and acting instruction like they do on Broadway. Students will learn to perform to their best ability and also be prepared for auditions and improvisation.

Required: comfortable pants and jazz shoes or sneakers.

Oct. 30 to Dec. 18 7 classes

Home School Workshops - All About Art (grades K-2)

First Monday of the Month 9:15am – 10:45am

Learn the Fundamentals of all types of media from educator Cathy Fitzpatrick.  Each workshop will be a thematic exploration of art and fun.

Art Studio (grades K-2)

Fridays 3:30 pm – 4:45pm

In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of art while having fun! The basic elements and principles of art will be explored through out each art lesson in order to develop each artist’s knowledge in creating their own unique work of art.

Nov. 2  to Dec. 21 -  6 classes

Pottery (grades K-2)

Wednesday 2pm – 3pm

Learn hand building pottery techniques to create pieces that will then have free-range of play on the surface. Learn many techniques, including carving, slip-trailing, mono-print and many more. Emphasis will be on play and exploration of a personal mark-making.

Oct. 31 to Dec. 19 -  7 classes **Class Closed**

The Fundamentals of Art  (grades 3 – 5)

Thursdays 3:30pm – 5:00om

Students will learn line, form, color, and composition to create using various art techniques while developing their own personal style.

Sept. 13 to Dec. 20 -  13 classes     **Class Closed**

The Art Academy – No experience required (grades 6-8)

Tuesdays 4:30pm – 6:30pm

This intensive course introduces middle school students to the world of art. Students will learn to understand and implement the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and sculpture in their work. Final artwork will be exhibited at the Cultural Center.

Sept. 11 to Dec.18 - 14 classes

Members: $210

Non-members: $240


Beginning Guitar (ages 7 – 12)

Tuesdays and Thursdays

Twice a week, 3:30pm – 4pm

Group lessons will be focused on developing an interest in music, basic skills on the guitar and having fun. Kids will learn song and melodies that are easy to play and sing along with. Classes will meet twice per week. Acoustic guitar needed.

Oct. 30 to Dec. 20 - 13 classes   **Class Closed**

Hip Hop (13 and up)

Tuesdays 6:30 – 7:30

Emily Aldridge

Fast-paced, high cardio, and street-style hip hop choreography for the music-lover. This is great exercise for those who want to learn street styles as well as classical dance. Required attire: lose-fitting clothing that expresses individual style and comfortable sneakers.
