Beginning Watercolor with Robert Leedy

This is a great introductory class to painting with watercolor. Students will learn the various supplies, preparing the paper, creating value studies, mixing colors, paint washes, wet-into-wet vs. dry brush and how to preserve the white of the paper, Students will paint watercolors from a studio still life or their own reference photo. Basic design skills and color theory are explored throughout the sessions. Instructor demonstrations and student work critiques will be held weekly. SUPPLY LIST

Plein Air Watercolor with Robert Leedy (beginning and intermediate levels)

Students will experience the joy of painting outdoors in the medium of watercolor. Designed as a continuation of the Beginning Watercolor class, this class is also open to intermediate level watercolor students as emphasis will be on individual development. The class will meet each week at specific outdoor locations and have access to the CCPVB studio in case of inclement weather. Students will learn how to effectively interpret and paint the scene before them while learning how to paint in a non-studio environment. Painting the Southern Landscape in Pastel

Learn to use pastels to create vivid, exciting landscape paintings. Using different underpainting techniques and various types of pastels, we’ll explore ways to interpret the different elements of the landscape. We will tackle things like composition, atmospheric perspective, thumbnail sketches and how to layer pastel to create rich, sophisticated color. In this class we will work from reference photographs, but you’ll learn how to recognize limitations of the photo itself and how to use it as an informative point of departure for your painting. In the first session students will discover their natural hand movement and will be encouraged to use it as they learn the many components of drawing. Lessons will cover the various drawing tools and surfaces available along with learning to see and developing a design/drawing vocabulary. Each class will focus on the basic concepts of seeing light and shadow, perceiving value, developing a composition and understanding perspective through various exercises using line, contour, value and tone, shapes & form, hatching, positive and negative drawing, perception of edges and relationships between objects. Second session will cover perspective drawing in greater detail, drawing people and animals as well as drawing in color and working from photographs. SUPPLY LIST

Beginner’s Guitar Course

Ceramics as Fine Arts

This class will introduce you to the exciting world of clay, a century’s old medium, used for functional, sculptural, decorative and industrial purposes. You will learn simple hand building techniques, and potter’s wheel basics as we alternate between the two methods. You will also learn about earthenware and porcelain clay bodies and glazing. Miksang Photography

Miksang combines contemplative meditation practices with photography. Miksang photography is concerned with the relationship between the photographer and the subject.  It teaches us to view the world in a more intimate and interactive way In this course, we will be learning the basic elements of Miksang photography, its approach and presentation.
